Job Purpose
Grameen Foundation India is looking for a consultant to serve as Qualitative Research Specialists for
Client Insights for Impact. Working in collaboration with various partners, the consultants will
develop and integrate a qualitative research strategy that will complement a quantitative impact
evaluation. The qualitative work will help the research team better understand the process and
mechanisms of change in program areas and provide contextual information that will help explain
quantitative research results. The consultants will be part of the core evaluation team and will
participate in all aspects of the qualitative research design, implementation, data analysis, and
dissemination of results. On the major technical and implementation issues, the consultants are
expected to work independently and to engage with a wide range of stakeholders in the field sites in
project and research locations.
The Qualitative Researcher will train field teams to ensure accurate data collection and adherence to
research protocols. They should have expertise in identifying and implementing robust qualitative
research methodologies from external sources like academic institutions, research organizations etc.
and will synthesize research insights into actionable recommendations to inform program design and
policy decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing, piloting, and revising the qualitative data collection tools and guidelines for formative research.
- Lead participatory research activities including observations, interviews, and group discussions across different geographies
- Document and analyze care practices using various qualitative research methods.
- Develop project outputs including research reports and knowledge resources.
- Timely documentation of all the qualitative information gathered, transcription, analysis, and report writing, ensuring completing of the tasks within the stipulated time frame.
- Lead and monitor the team to ensure the quality of fieldwork. ensure proper identification of selected respondents, gathering of high-quality data, tracking of fieldwork progress, secure management of data, and respect for the confidentiality of the respondents.
- Working with the Technical Lead to revise the guidelines, IEC tools, and key intervention delivery strategies after the completion of formative research.
- Providing critical inputs towards the program design and implementation strategy of Project based on the findings and learnings from the formative research.
- Transcribe audio recordings and other data collected on paper. Organize all data into an organized package for transmission.
- Collaborate with other members of the research team to write an academic paper based on these evaluation reports.
- Work closely with Business development team to develop research proposals.
- Travel extensively in the project villages.
- Support project coordination and administrative tasks as needed.
- Ensure ethical compliance and obtain necessary approvals, such as Institutional Review Board (IRB) or ethics committee approvals, for human subject research. Leading the IRB (Institutional Review Board) approval processes for getting survey approvals for Grameen’s primary data collection efforts.
- Contribute to knowledge documents for events, conferences, and other forums to present the Organisation’s research findings and implications.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
- PhD or P.G. degree in Social Sciences / Public Health / Statistics / Demography / Population Studies/ Management/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Computer Science.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant field experience doing qualitative research, involving the collection of original data. Experience of running qualitative studies, including in data collection design, implementation, and analysis.
- Experience to analyze qualitative data for inductive and deductive analysis using qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo, Dedoose, Atlas Ti, etc. Experience with quantitative analysis tools such as Stata/ SPSS/ Python/ R is a strong plus.
- Preference for candidates with prior experience in development research, social impact studies.

- Excellent documentation and analytical abilities Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively in teams, vulnerable community and
- with government counterparts.
- Computer Knowledge: Excel, Word, Power Point, and other relevant tools used for qualitative research
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse stakeholders: Community, Frontline workers, and government officers.
